Ruby Bright

Ruby Bright is the executive director and chief administrative officer of the Women's Foundation for a Greater Memphis (WFGM).

Over the past eight years, Ruby has worked with the board of directors to increase fund-raising and grant distribution by more than 125 percent, reaching milestones in the core operating budget exceeding $1 million during the 2006-07 fiscal year. Annual grant-making fund allocation is over $500,000.  In the past 13 years, the Women’s Foundation has awarded $3.3 million in support of 237 programs provided by over 100 non-profit organizations in the greater Memphis area. 

Under Ruby's leadership the Women's Foundation oversaw a $7.3 million local campaign that leveraged the efforts of the City of Memphis to secure $40 million in Hope VI Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grants. The Foundation, in partnership with the City of Memphis, Memphis Housing Authority (MHA) and other strategic local partners, developed an innovative Community Supportive Service program plan to address skills training, employment, health and other human service needs of public housings residents in two urban communities. This partnership marks a first to be led by a women’s organization in Hope VI public and private community plans.

Ruby shares the mission and passion for the work of the Women's Foundation of Greater Memphis by speaking to women's and business organizations, research and education institutions, and community groups fostering mission shared alliances to improve the quality of life for women and children. She is involved with numerous civic and community organizations, serving as the board chair of the Women's Funding Network, and serving on the boards of Leadership Memphis,  Memphis H.O.P E. strategic development committee, Memphis Land Bank, Partnership for the Homeless community advisory committee, Memphis Leadership Academy and the Memphis Area Women's Council. Ruby is also a member of Women of Achievement and the Network of Memphis.

Ruby has received numerous leadership awards, including the 2005 Shelby County Mayors' Ruby R. Wharton award for community service, the 2005 Women of Achievement Vision award, the 2006 MHA /Women's Empowerment Evie Horton Award and the 2006 Woman of Character Award from the Girls Scouts of the Mid-South. Under her leadership, the Women's Foundation of Greater Memphis recently received the Memphis 2006 Foundation of the Year Award.
