Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Women of all ages, in more than 7,000 congregational and special units in the United States and the Caribbean, carry out the mission of Women of the ELCA: mobilizing women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.

The Fund for Women in Asia (Associate Member)

The Fund for Women in Asia is determined to help bring about social change in how women and girls are valued in their communities.

We will do that by strengthening local women's groups, so they can more effectively speak for themselves. We aim to partner with local groups, to help leverage their resources effectively, bringing not only financial resources but also skills, such as management, marketing and fundraising.

Fund for Global Human Rights, Women's Rights Fund

The Women's Rights Fund enables the Fund for Global Human Rights to highlight the work of more than eighty women’s rights grantees; underscore the connection between legal, economic and social discrimination against women throughout the world; and attract new financial resources to the Fund—enabling us to expand our grant-making on the range of critical human rights issues affecting women’s everyday lives.

Women's Fund of Miami-Dade County

Women's Fund has awarded over $2 million to more than 225 projects serving thousands of women and girls and has played an important role in encouraging the development of more programs designed with the need of women and girls in mind and strengthening existing gender-specific programs.

The Women's Foundation

Goals of the Women's Foundation:
Goal 1 - (Program / Grantmaking) - Lead change through collaboration and make grants that are targeted by research, evaluated for impact, and build economic self-reliance for women and girls.
Goal 2 - (Research / Communications) - Define and communicate the status, issues and solutions for women and girls and establish TWF as a leading voice in the community.
Goal 3 - (Resource Development) - Increase funding for Hong Kong women and girls by fundraising to ensure long-term financial support of our mission and strategic plan.

Ms. Foundation for Women

The Ms. Foundation actively works to bring race, class, age and sexuality to the center of feminist organizing (a concept we call social justice feminism) and to bring a gender lens to the center of broader progressive organizing (a concept we call feminist social justice).

History

Women’s Funding Network has worked with several organizations in the past as part of its Women Without Borders project. The initial focus of Women Without Borders was encouraging women to change the way U.S. foreign policy addresses violence, human trafficking and poverty.

Past successes
include mobilizing more than 18,000 people to sign a petition in support of the International Marriage Broker Regulation Act, anti-trafficking legislation that was passed into law; winning the reconsideration of denial of asylum for a young Albanian trafficking survivor; urging media coverage of key issues including Iraqi women’s rights, women and the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort and Darfur; and letter-writing campaigns to public officials and top news channels and publications.

Global Fund for Women

We are part of a global women's movement that is rooted in a commitment to justice and an appreciation of the value of women's experience. The challenges women face vary widely across communities, cultures, religions, traditions and countries. We believe that women should have a full range of choices, and that women themselves know best how to determine their needs and propose solutions for lasting change. The way in which we do our work is as important as what we do. This philosophy is reflected in our flexible, respectful and responsive style of grantmaking.

More Than 1,000 Letters Sent to Attorney General in Asylum Case (2007)

As International Women's Day 2007 wound down, 1,729 people had taken action and contacted the Attorney General, requesting that the U.S. Supreme Court uphold a Court of Appeals ruling allowing asylum for “Li,” a young woman who fled China after her parents paid off their debts by selling her to an abusive man.

Unfortunately, on March 16th, the U.S. Government asked the Supreme Court to reverse the Second Circuit’s decision. However, the outpouring of voices speaking up for Li shows increasing public support for forced marriage as a valid basis for asylum.

Addressing Trafficking of Persons in the Human Rights Framework

I believe that a human rights framework would help us analyze, strategize and link the various aspects of the complex issue of trafficking together.

I've been working on anti-trafficking for 20 years. Despite some hard-won gains, the situation is getting rapidly worse now. My own specialty is bringing together anti-trafficking with human rights work. I feel that if we're going to tackle this and win we have to find a way to bring all the people working on this issue together. I believe that a human rights framework would help us analyze, strategize and link the various aspects of the complex issue of trafficking together.
