Our Values

We are guided by the principles of respectful commerce through fair trade and inspired by a belief that when women around the world are empowered through economic enterprise, families and communities transform. Women’s economic security is necessary for healthy, thriving and peaceful communities.

In selecting these hand crafted products and the fair trade retailers who sell them, we are providing products that are produced by women or by women led enterprises. We have followed guidelines established by the Fair Trade Federation for fair pay to artisans, access to healthy and safe working conditions, use of sustainable renewable materials, technical support and transparency.

Here are the criteria we adopted from the Fair Trade Federation:
  • A fair wage in the local context to the artisans that crafted the product.
  • Employment opportunities for women and the most disadvantaged communities.
  • Access to safe and clean work environments.
  • Rules that forbid the use of child labor in production, unless the entire family is involved in the craft and children are still attending school.
  • Environmentally sustainable production practices where possible.
  • Technical assistance, market information and product development that support the artisans.
  • Business practices which are open to public scrutiny and making every effort to be as transparent as possible.
  • Reinvesting in the artisan community to support and strengthen their social and economic conditions.
